The Second Step in Your J. Baby Surrogacy Journey
Once you’ve completed your introductory conversations, the next phase of your journey is Step 2: Medical Records Review. This step is designed to ensure you’re truly ready — physically, emotionally, and medically — to move forward with confidence and support.
Surrogacy is a meaningful commitment, and at J. Baby, we believe your health and well-being must always come first. That’s why this stage is handled with care, patience, and transparency, never rushed or treated as a formality.
What This Step is Really Designed To Do
The Medical Records Review protects everyone involved — you, the baby, and the Intended Parents — while laying a safe and informed foundation for the journey ahead. During this step, our goal is to:
- Confirm that your previous pregnancies and deliveries were healthy
- Ensure your medical history aligns with ASRM guidelines
- Evaluate your emotional readiness with a licensed mental health professional
- Complete a standard background check for safety and transparency
- Give you clarity and confidence before moving into matching
This step isn’t about passing or failing. It’s about making sure your experience is supported, informed, and built on a strong medical foundation.
What Happens During the Medical Records Review
Once Step 2 begins, the J. Baby team will guide you through each requirement with clarity and compassion. Here’s what you can expect:
Medical Records Collection
We collect your OB history, birth records, and documentation from all prior pregnancies. These records are submitted to one of our trusted fertility clinic partners, where they’re reviewed by specialists experienced in surrogacy care.
Clinical Approval
The clinic carefully reviews your records to identify anything that may require additional monitoring or follow-up. If no concerns are found, you’re medically cleared to continue.
Mental Health Evaluation
You’ll meet with a mental health professional who works specifically with surrogates. This is a supportive, educational conversation — not a test — designed to ensure you feel informed, emotionally prepared, and confident in your role.
Background Check
A standard background check completes this step, helping provide peace of mind and transparency for everyone involved.
Why This Step Matters
The Medical Records Review establishes trust, safety, and clarity early in the process. It gives you the opportunity to understand your medical standing, ask questions, and move forward knowing you’re fully prepared.
This step reassures Intended Parents that their future surrogate is healthy and supported — and reassures you that you’re entering the journey with the right care team behind you.
Once Step 2 is complete, everyone can move forward with confidence, knowing the foundation of the journey is strong and secure.
Ready for the Next Step?
After you’re medically and emotionally cleared, you’ll move on to Step 3 – Matching With Intended Parents, one of the most exciting and meaningful parts of the surrogacy journey.
If you have questions about Step 2 or want to better understand your eligibility before applying, our team is always here to help.
